Dress your cat up for Halloween with an adorable frog costume. With just a few pieces of green felt and some other simple materials, you can create a custom fit frog costume for your pet. Not only is this a comfortable costume, but it is also safe for cats to wear.
Things You’ll Need
Large plastic googly eyes
Soft tape measure
Fabric pencil or marker
Measure the circumference of your cat’s neck using a tape measure.
Cut a one-and-one-half inch wide strip of green felt that coincides with the circumference of the cat’s neck plus a two inch allowance for the Velcro strip. Test the length of the felt strip. You should be able to fit one finger underneath the collar when it is around the cat’s neck.
Cut two small pieces of Velcro (one of the soft side and one of the rough side) and stick them to the ends of the felt collar. Test this on the cat to make sure it isn’t too tight before proceeding.
Draw two frog hands with three fingers each onto the green felt, making sure not to make the fingers too thin. Cut these out with scissors.
Sew the frog hand flaps about three inches apart on the front of the collar. The feet should be underneath your cat’s chin.
Cut out a small frog tongue from the red felt and use the fabric glue to attach it between the two feet.
Measure your cat’s head from the jaw to the crown of the head.
Cut two equally sized trapezoidal pieces of green felt using your measurements from the underside of the chin to the crown of the head. Keep in mind that you will need about two inches of extra length at the thinner ends for the Velcro.
Cut four two-inch wide half ellipses for the eyes. Sew these pieces together back to front to make two half ellipses.
Sew all of the pieces together, inserting the eyes between the triangular and trapezoidal pieces of felt. Do this by layering the ends of all three pieces on top of each other and sewing the ends together. You may need a thicker needle or you can hand-sew the eyes to the other pieces.
